Eldee’s No Show In Houston

The Nigerian Reunion Houston 2009 was a success with headliners such as Olu Maintain and the Kentro Crew and Eldee and Oladele. However Eldee’s high demands were not fulfilled resulting in him not performing and much worst, unforgivable behaviour.

Mr. Olanrewaju Dabiri aka. Eldee was a no show at The Nigerian Reunion Houston 2009 held by the Nigerian Reunion Organisation. He refused to perform at the concert on June 27th because of an outstanding balance payment of $500 owed to him, letting fans down that had paid to see him.

Prior to his departure from Nigeria to Texas, the artist was paid $4000 for his performance fee with a remaining balance of $1000. On the day of the performance, Eldee refused to leave the hotel unless he received the balance. This may seem fair on his part however, he was informed by the driver assigned to him that he would receive the balance before he would actually go on stage like all other artists.

With this knowledge, Eldee still refused which led to his driver withdrawing £500 dollars from an ATM, the maximum he could withdraw, and told him to get in the car so he didn’t let his fans down. The artist still refused and was even making complaints in the hotel whilst Olu Maintain and the Kentro Crew left for the concert.

Olu Maintain and the Kentro Crew performed without knowing how or when their performance fee was going to be paid, so what made Eldee different?

He didn’t perform or take part in any activities planned by the NRO but did his own thing with no formal notice or way of contacting him. He made excuses wherever possible and even worked his way out of a mic check because ‘a random artist’ as he put it, was on stage!

Extremely unprofessional, Eldee’s behaviour continued as he ran up an unauthorised tab in the hotel of room service, movies, bar service and much more! He also complained that he was treated unequally compared with Olu Maintain and was paid no attention and there was no 24hr staff assigned to him.

The NRO said that both artists were assigned the same drivers and received exactly the same treatment. All except Eldee were grateful! They have demanded that Eldee apologise to his fans for letting them down.

What are your thoughts? Was Eldee in the wrong for not performing because he had not received the full performance fee? What made him different from the other artists that had signed the same contract?
